The following poem was written for and dedicated to Jerry Self.

*Gone*

I never told you how much I cared
the truth I never told,
the feeling with you I shared
meant more to me than anything else.

On top of the world
the sticks beneath my feet,
the problems of my life
unsturdy and about to fall.

Taken too early
don't know what to say,
you were my role model and friend
someone to talk to you.

Eyes red and blurred
vision diluted and dark,
never knew the true opinions
and what we really thought of you.
How much you meant
how you brightened my day.

The smile on my face
from cheek to cheek,
the friend you've been
my brother everyday of the week.

Sunday morning I talked to you
you say good day and I the same,
at noon I say good-bye
not realizing it will be the last.

Taking life for granted
the gift of friendship,
you're so young
a man of integrity and faith.
Your walk with the Lord
an example to us all.

Problems standing of a pile of styx
quaking and shaking,
life smashed under the power
I'm crushed by branches of despair and pain.

Missing you already
your bright shining face
gone to a better place
sitting in this place looking into our father's beautiful
face.

Heaven is place of happiness
but down on earth we're stuck with the pain,
one less of those of could have helped the world
the gift lost forever never to be found;
gone forever, old friend, forever
blurred and red eyes hide the pain
under the logs, the Self I knew lost forever.
        -Me

We'll miss you forever and never forget the happiness
you've brought to all of our lives.  Success born out of
tragedy, only God knows the purpose. Only one week from
your boots, lived lift to it's fullest; with no regrets.
We love you always.
