Denton Guyer cornerback Josh Stewart wants to focus on his senior season. He is committed to help…
Aggies Land Commit No. 2
With Texas A&M looking at a smaller class in 2011, the Aggie coaching staff has moved slower on this recruiting class than in recent years when they had a full 25 spots to fill. But with the Aggies expecting only one freshman cornerback on-campus in August, it's no surprise that they quickly moved on 5-foot-10, 170-pound Denton Guyer defensive back Josh Stewart.
Offered by the Aggies earlier this week, Stewart decided it was an offer he couldn't refuse and notified the staff of his verbal commitment this morning. Aggie Websider's Taylor Hamm caught up with Stewart by phone and discussed his decision.
Stewart on committing to A&M,
"One of the reasons why I went ahead and committed is because there is only one other school that I was interested in besides A&M and that was Oklahoma State," said Stewart. "I would love to play with J.W. [Walsh] and my other teammates but I felt like A&M wanted me more and it would be a better place for me. I feel like I have made the best decision for me. Even if OSU offers me they won't drag me out of my decision."
Stewart makes it clear that A&M is where he wants to be:
"This is it, nobody can pull me away from A&M," said Stewart when asked if A&M will be his final destination.
Stewart on his relationship with Dat Nguyen:
"Coach Nguyen was really excited. We had talked a lot recently. He already had an idea that I was going to commit there because of what we had talked about. I like how we can just talk about life and stuff outside of football."
Stewart will be down for a spring practice with his teammates at the end of the month:
"I'll be down there on the 28th with two of my teammates," said Stewart. "Blake Terry and Josh Allen will be coming with me and they are both very interested in A&M."
Stewart on his future with A&M:
"Now, I can focus on getting stronger and making sure my grades stay where they are. I'm really excited about being a part of the Wrecking Crew and the resurgence of A&M defense. Whatever they need me to do, if they want me to red-shirt, I'll do it."
