Donald Sloan scored 21 points to lead four players in double figures and Texas A&M (No. 18 ESPN/USA Today, No. 16 AP) beat North Texas 75-65 on Monday night at Reed Arena.
Texas A&M ad North Texas exchanged the lead several times in the first eight minutes ofr the game and North Texas guard Josh White hit a two-point jumper at the 11:43 mark of the first half to give the Mean Green a 17-14 lead over the Aggies.
In the next ten minutes, Texas A&M forced seven North Texas turnovers during a 26-4 Aggie run to take a 40-21 lead.
North Texas scored a basket and couple of free throws to cut the Aggie lead to 40-25 at the half.
The Aggies and Mean Green traded baskets for most of the second half, but North Texas never pulled closer than eight points, and the Aggies cruised to a 75-65 win.
Donald Sloan scored 21 points for the Aggies. Bryan Davis added 15 points, 6 rebounds and 3 blocked shots. David Loubeau scored 12 and Derrick Roland had 10 for the Aggies (8-1), who have now won four straight.
Eric Tramiel led the Mean Green (5-3) with 17 points.
Neither team shot well from 3-point range. North Texas was 4 of 16 and Aggies weren't much better with 5 from 14 attempts.
A positive sign for the Aggies was their making of 20 of 24 free throw attempts.
A&M has won 48 consecutive nonconference home games.
The Aggies next play New Mexico on Saturday in Houston's Toyota Center, home of the NBA's Houston Rockets.
