Head coach Mike Sherman has surprised many in the recruiting industry by reeling in a very impressive 2010 class. Add No. 20 to the list and it could be arguably his most impressive verbal plege to date. Taylor Hamm of Aggie Websider recently got the good word from Jake himself
In one of the most remarkable turnarounds in recent years,
Texas A&M
head coach Mike Sherman put the cherry on top of a highly-regarded 2010 offensive line class when four-star prospect
Jake Matthews
pulled the trigger while taking an unofficial visit to Texas A&M this afternon.
"Yeah man, I just committed to A&M," Matthews told Aggie Websider's Taylor Hamm outside the Bright Complex this afternoon. "The visit went real well."
Matthews has been low-key throughout the recruiting process but recent narrowed his list down to
USC
and Texas A&M after a visit to Los Angeles to see the Trojan program where his father, uncle, and cousins all played and starred.
However, it was geography and the fact that his older brother Kevin is the starting center certainly was a factor. However, Coach Sherman's background with offensive line coaching and his experience in the NFL also played a role.
Matthews visited the campus with some friends and his younger brother Mike who also looks to be a top-rated OL prospect in a couple of years.
Matthews' verbal pledge gives the Aggies 20 commitments, five of those coming on the offensive line that is in the process of being rebuilt.
