Pressey Looking at Aggies

Phil Pressey has emerged as one of the top point guards in the country and his long and distinguished offer list is proof that he's become a hot commodity on the recruiting circuit. Aggie Websider's David Sandhop talks to Pressey about his interest in the Aggies.

Emerging as the top point guard from the Class of 2010 in the lone star state, Phil Pressey is drawing a lot of attention and scholarship offers from the top programs in college basketball. The 5-foot-9, 150-pound assist man spoke to Aggie Websider's David Sandhop about his offer list.

"I have offers from Pitt, Texas, Florida, OU, Missouri, Texas A&M, Baylor, Arizona State and some others," Pressey said. "It's pretty calm right now. I'm focused on my season."

And what a season the junior is having so far. He is averaging an incredible 11.5 assists to go along with his 19.5 points and six steals a contest. He is pleased with his progress in the early season.

"I had to get better with my shot and I worked hard on it in the offseason so that has improved," Pressey said. "Everything is going well and I'm doing what I need to do to help the team. My footwork on defense has also gotten better and I'm creating steals and putting greater pressure on the ball."

His performances have college programs lining up at his door, but Pressey (who is the son of former NBA star Paul Pressey) is in no hurry to engage in the process and pick a school. He wants to take his time and deal with the schools after the season.

"I really don't have any favorites and I'm not looking to pick a school right away," Pressey said. "If a school is interested in me, I'm open. I'll wait until after the AAU season in the summer to narrow my options down to five and then take visits."

Pressey did take an unofficial visit to Texas A&M in the fall, attending one of the Aggie football games and spending time with some of the players. The Aggies are under consideration, but it's way too early to name any leaders for his services.

"I like Texas A&M. I went down there this fall. I was late arriving and didn't get to see as much as I wanted so that was disappointing," Pressey said. "But I hope to make it back there. I noticed that Coach Richardson was at my game last week. He's a good guy."

While Pressey refused to name a list of finalists, he did say there's a chance the Aggies will get one of his five official visits next fall.

"It's hard to say where I'll take my visits," Pressey said. "But if I had to make a choice today, A&M would probably get one of my five visits. I watched them beat LSU and they looked pretty good."

Pressey recently moved from the Boston area down to Dallas and is currently playing for the Episcopal School of Dallas. The team is currently 17-4.
