Rounding out the A&M signing class is Houston Jones star Ray Turner. Turner has been lighting it up…
Turner Discusses His Recent A&M Pledge
At 6-foot-8, 210 pounds, Turner is considered one of the most athletic forwards in the country who can play tough down low in the post but who can also run the court with anybody and beat his opponent both inside and outside.
His addition to the roster will bring the speed and ball skills that will help the team run Coach Turgeon's fast-paced brand of basketball.
Turner has been recruited under the radar screen due to his infrequent contact with recruiting services, but he impressed A&M coaches and observers at this summer's Texas A&M Elite Camp. If you recall, I attended the camp and filed several reports during the event where I identified Turner as the the most impressive forward participating in the camp which included several Top 100 four-star national prospects.
His ability to run the court and perform well away from the basketball is one of his biggest attributes as he showed good shooting range out to 15 feet, but what set him apart was his ability to also go inside and show his tenacious rebounding with much bigger post players.
He's very long and wiry, and he'll need to bulk up a little when he makes the transition to D-1 collegiate basketball, but there's no question Texas A&M picked up one of the best remaining Class of 2009 forwards in the country. Turner picked the Aggies over Marquette, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State.
