McAllister hopes to earn offer at camp
Converse Judson linebacker Chris McAllister also falls into that speed category, and while he doesn't hold a Texas A&M offer, a good performance at this weekend's Aggie camp could change that.
"I'm planning on going to the A&M camp on July 13," McAllister said. "I've been talking to Coach Kines and he said I'm one of those players that's very close to an offer, and if I do a good job at the camp that might be enough to get an offer."
McAllister has certainly impressed observers at every camp he's attended so far this offseason. He clocked the fastest time (4.68 forty – slow track)) at his position at the Scout.com/UnderArmour combine this spring, and at the Texas camp he reeled off a blazing 4.56.
"I actually ran my first attempt in the 4.4's, but they said something was wrong with the clock," McAllister said of his times at the Texas camp. "I ran it again and they still couldn't believe I ran a 4.56."
The word is starting to get out on the San Antonio native, who happens to be related to NFL running back Duece McAllister. His offer list includes Baylor, Missouri, Kansas State, Houston, Colorado State, and Tulsa among others. While the 6-foot-3, 215-pound linebacker says it's too early to name any leaders, he did say that an offer from Texas A&M would be significant for him.
"If A&M offers, that would be a big deal. They would definitely be way up there for me," McAllister said. "I just need to go up there and show them what I'm capable of doing and see what happens."
Another Big 12 school making a move on the Judson product is Oklahoma State. McAllister visited the Cowboy campus recently and there appears to be mutual interest.
"I went there on an unofficial visit, and it was impressive with all the new facilities," McAllister said. "I talked with the coaches and they said I have a good chance of getting an offer from them soon, especially since I came up to campus and met with them in person."
Between camps and unofficial visits, McAllister is hard at work getting ready for the football season and after adding about 10 pounds since the end of last season and working on his speed and quickness, he's looking to have a stellar senior campaign.
"I'm definitely bigger and stronger, and I feel much quicker too," McAllister said. "I've been doing a lot of lifting, jump rope, and stair drills in the offseason and I'm ready to have a great senior year."
But first, he's hoping for a great performance at the Texas A&M camp on Sunday.
