COACH'S REPORT: Colton Valencia

Sugar Land Hightower (TX) safety Colton Valencia is getting looks from just about every major program that still has scholarships available, including Texas A&M. Aggie Websider's Dallas Shipp visits with Hightower head coach Shane Hallmark about Valencia and what makes him such a hot commodity.

What makes Colton such a big prize for Division-I schools?
His versatility. He can play corner, he can play safety. He's got tremendous feet and hips. He's a natural athlete out there. If we had a LB go down, we'd probably move him there, he's that versatile.

What kind of special physical traits does Colton bring to the table?
He's about 5-11, 180, he's solid put together kid. He's getting real thick. He runs real well, he's a 4.5 guy. I'm not gonna lie to you and give you some inflated numbers. A 4.4 kid in high school is rare, but he runs a legit 4.5.

What does he mean to you on the field?
He's on every special team. Last year he even punted. He's more of a vocal leader. He's kind of the leader of our secondary. He's a good football player.

How close is Valencia to Dele Junaid? Do you think they would want to go to the same school?
They're pretty close together. I think they're both going to go where ever they decided after they sit down with their families. It's about where they're going to fit for the best education opportunity. I think that'd be great (if they ended up at the same university) but ultimately it's going to come down to what they decide with their families. Recommended Stories
