Aggie Websider first reported two weeks ago that Desoto running back Cyrus Gray had committed to Texas A&M coaches, and on Sunday night, he made it official with a formal announcement on a local television station in Dallas.
Desoto running back
Cyrus Gray
finally made his commitment official during a formal announcement Sunday night on the local Dallas Fox affiliate, ending months of speclation and making
Texas A&M
fans very happy in he process.
The four-star running back is one of the top prospects in the state of Texas this year, and he's listed by Scout.com as the No. 11 running back in the nation.
"I chose Texas A&M because it's the school I felt most comfortable," Gray said during his announcement. "My family will be here next year and get a chance to see me play. Also it's another chapter in my life I get to open up."
After meeting with new A&M head coach Mike Sherman several weeks ago, it was just too hard for the blue-chip to say no.
“He sounds like a great coach. We just introduced ourselves and tried to get to know each other,” Gray said referring to his first phone conversation with the new A&M head coach. “He wants to run a pro-style offense with multiple sets like he did in Green Bay.”
Sherman also received lots of input from former Desoto teammates and current Texas A&M players
Von Miller
and
Garrick Williams
.
“They are really excited about Coach Sherman coming in. He’s an NFL guy and will develop players to win championships and get to the next level,” Gray said. “Sherman told them he’d make them better football players, and everybody is getting a fresh start with him.”
Gray becomes Texas A&M's 28th commitment in the Class of 2008, three of which enrolled at mid-term and are already on-campus. Earlier in the day, A&M picked up a commitment from Austin LBJ linebacker Ricky Cavanaugh who registered 22 sacks last season.
