This upcoming visit for Texas A&M verbal K.J. Williams is important. It's to Texas A&M, of course,…
Williams likes what he hears
"The first question I asked Coach Sherman when we talked was what position did he see me playing at A&M," Williams said. "He said he wanted me at tight end, that I had the natural skills to play there and with Martellus (Bennett) leaving early, he has an opening right now."
Sherman's discussion of the tight end position didn't end there.
"He didn't make me any promises. He said I needed to work hard and compete with the other guys on campus," Williams said. "But he told me he came up through the NFL as a tight end coach and coached guys like Bubba Franks and put three into the Pro Bowl, and he says I have that raw ability if I work hard and focus myself."
So, was that the message the Scout.com three-star athlete wanted to hear?
"Yeah, I'm solid to A&M," Williams said. "All of the commitments were there and we are all on the same page. No individual agendas. We all want this class to make a difference. We came together this weekend. Everything was cool." Not only is Williams solid to the Aggies, but the coaches see him as a future team leader.
"Coach Malone talked to me and said I have a great attitude," Williams said. "He said he could see me being a good leader and being a guy that can make things happen in the locker room. That was cool." Williams was hosted by fellow Oklahomian Kenny Brown, and he had a chance to talk to some of the veteran players as well.
"I talked to Billy Chavis about the new staff and the situation at A&M," Williams said. "He says that everybody is on the same page and we all have to prove ourselves to the new coaches. Everybody gets a clean slate and they are excited about that."
Asked if this visit ends the recruiting process for him and his family, Williams did say there's some unfinished business before he can say he's ending the process entirely. Previously, Williams scheduled a trip to Kansas State next weekend.
"I'm pretty sure I'm done, but I need to go home and talk to my parents about it," Williams said. "They wanted me to take my visits to make sure I'm making the right choice, so I don't know. What I do know is that I'm an Aggie."
