Dashan Harris says he already feels like a brother to his future teammates in Aggieland. What else…
Basketball commit headed to Aggieland
Two months later, Harris will take his official visit this weekend to see his new basketball home in Texas.
"I'm scheduled to get there Thursday night. I'm really looking forward to it," Harris said. "I just got off the phone with BJ Holmes (A&M freshman guard) and he said Soulja Boy will be at the Maroon Madness so that should be fun."
Harris is also looking forward to watching the team's first formal practice of the new season that takes place at 7:00 pm shortly before Maroon Madness. He has already developed a friendship with several of the players.
"I talk to BJ and Deandre (Jordan) a lot. I knew them from summer camps and AAU ball," Harris said. "I call Deandre all the time, and the team always seems to be with him so I talk to all of them."
So it comes as no surprise that Jordan will be his official host for the upcoming weekend.
"Deandre and I were on the same team at last year's ABCD camp and also at the NBA Camp," Harris said. "We always talked when we saw each other at AAU events. I'm looking forward to playing with him again next year."
With this being Harris' second visit to College Station, is there something he missed the first time that he wants to check out this go round?
"I think I've seen everything except the students and the fans," Harris said. "When I came in the summer, the students weren't around so I want to feel the vibe around campus. I might go to a class on Friday with Deandre to see what that's like."
Other than preparing for his visit, the 6-foot, 175-pound point guard has been focusing on preparations for his senior season and improving his game.
"I've been working hard on getting stronger physically. I need to be able to go all 32 minutes if that's what coach needs me to do. I have to be prepared for that, so I can be strong at the end of the game," Harris said. "I've also been working hard on my jump shot. It's all about repetition and getting to the point where you don't think about it. You shoot and you know it will go in."
Harris and his Montverde Academy teammates are looking forward to another successful season in 2007-2008. After all, with Harris running the point, Montverde is 55-1. He expects to sign his Texas A&M letter-of-intent next month during the early signing period.
