Newest A&M Commit Discusses Decision
"I called Coach Turgeon about 30 minutes ago and committed, " Harris said. "He was happy to hear that I want to play for him. I'm excited to play for him. We have the same mindset when it comes to basketball"
When the 6-foot, 170-pound guard left Texas A&M, he had a feeling he wanted to commit, but he still needed to confer with his coach and his family to get their opinion. The answers he got led him to pick up the phone and call the Texas A&M coaching staff.
"When I left, I had a gut feeling I was going to A&M, but I needed to let things settle and discuss my decision with my family and Coach Sutton (Montverde Academy head coach)," Harris said. "We discussed the academics at A&M, the atmosphere, and the basketball program. They all felt A&M was a good decision so I made the call."
In terms of basketball, Coach Sutton reassured his point guard that Coach Turgeon and the Texas A&M program would be a good situation for him.
"Coach Sutton knows Coach Turgeon and the kind of coach he is so he was fully supportive of my decision," Harris said. "He likes to get up and down the court on offense and play full-court, tough man-to-man defense. Games are won on defense, and I take pride in my defense. Coach Turgeon feels the same way."
Harris explained that he's excited about his decision, and he's 100% sold on his commitment and does not plan to take more visits.
"It's going to be great. We will win and I'm looking forward to it," Harris said. "I'm committed 100% and the only visit I'm going to take is my official to A&M in September."
With his family in Los Angeles, the blue chip point guard said that having family in Houston (aunt, cousin) was another positive factor in his decision.
"It's important being close to family just an hour or two away in Houston," Harris explained. "I visited Houston several times and I'm familiar with the area. They will be able to come see me play."
Harris flies back to Florida in a few days to begin his season year and start preparing for his senior season at Montverde Academy where he's 55-1 since arriving two years ago.
