Johnson pulls the trigger

Aggie Websider reported on Friday that it was likely, but it became official today when Arp wide receiver Sedrick Johnson called the A&M coaches to verbalize his commitment to the Aggies. David Sandhop caught up with Johnson just minutes after the phone call to find out more about his decision.

The Texas A&M coaching staff added to its impressive haul for the Class of 2008 when Arp receiver Sedrick Johnson called Coach Dennis Franchione this afternoon and officially committed to the Aggies.

"I just called Coach Franchione and Coach Helduser and committed to A&M about 10 minutes ago," Johnson said. "I was driving back from the LSU camp and I had a long time to think about it. There are some great schools recruiting me, but everytime I thought about it, it came back to A&M."

Johnson elaborated on the reasons why he chose the Aggies.

"Number one is the environment. I felt comfortable at A&M," Johnson said. "It's close to home and I'd like my mom to come watch me play every week. Number three – I guess I'm just an Aggie type of guy."

Johnson measured 6-foot-3.5, 195 pounds this past weekend at Texas A&M's inaugural Game Night Camp. The east Texas prospect was impressed with the caliber of elite prospects at the camp, especially at quarterback.

"Those guys have strong arms. I had to get used to them," Johnson said. "Dorman is as good a quarterback as you'll find, and Cody Green was just amazing."

Johnson felt he did well at the camp.

"I think I did pretty good. I didn't drop many balls," Johnson said. "There were some great defensive backs there and they made it hard to get open, but I found my spots."

Johnson is undecided whether he'll take any future visits. Arp starts preparations for the 2007 season on August 6, with their first game at home on August 31 against Edgewood.
