Tied:
The Aggies and Black Knights have split each one a game in their two previous meetings. Texas A&M defeated West Point under the leadership of head coach Gene Stallings at West Point, 20-13, in 1969. Under head coach Emory Bellard, the Black Knights beat the Aggies, 24-14 at Kyle Field in 1972.
Dennis Franchione on playing Army:
“I think our players have an understanding that that situation is important for them to know because they're going to be a very disciplined team, that’s not going to make very many mistakes. The academies make you beat them, they don't lose games, they make you beat them. They are always very sound, always very well coached and very technically good. They are going to put themselves in good position and if we turn the ball over four times like we did the first game, we won't have much chance to win this game I don't think. We are not going to be able to do that unless we can force some turnovers and that's not in Army’s nature to do that at all. It hasn't been ours either but certainly it is not the nature of playing an academy that that's going to happen very often.”
Army head coach
Bobby Ross
on playing in San Antonio:
“I’m not against this. We’re trying to spread our roots, and I think and I think it’s a good recruiting thing for us. We have a lot of youngsters on our team from Texas. There are a lot of soldiers out there, so we’re going to go there. If I had my druthers, I’d rather be here, but I’m not against what we did. I was asked about it, and I supported it 100 percent.”
Army head coach Bobby Ross on the Aggies:
“Texas A&M looks like they are back. Some people thought they were down, but this is a heck of a football team.”
Super Schroeder:
Senior wide receiver
Chad Schroeder
has recorded a team-high nine catches for 121 yards and a pair of touchdowns in his first two games. Against The Citadel, Schroeder had a career-best six catches for 101 yards.
Conference leader:
Sophomore running back
Jorvorskie Lane
’s four touchdowns against Louisiana-Lafayette vaulted him into the scoring lead in the Big 12 conference with 15 points per game.
Army QB
David Pevoto
on the Aggies:
“It will be a pretty big challenge. They’re a very good team with a lot of size and speed. They’re one of the top teams in the country, and we’re looking forward to the opportunity to play them.”
Army SS
Caleb Campbell
on the Aggies:
“It’s exciting. Football in the state of Texas is such a big thing. The fact that I get to go back to my home state and play a good team will be exciting.”.
