Ag WR Commit: Scouting Report

Last season it was Jamie McCoy and Chevar Bryson. This season it was Trent Hines and Leslie Ray. Now add in Terrence McCoy, the starting receiver from Midland Lee. McCoy, who stands 6'4" and 200 pounds, will join his brother, Jamie, and three other friends at Texas A&M.

Terrence McCoy is relieved to have the recruiting process over with. "I was very excited. I didn't want to go in to the season worrying about what school I was going to go to. I wanted to focus on having a good season." Contrary to what one might think, however, Jamie's commitment really had no effect on Terrence's commitment. "When he first committed, I wasn't too excited. But when everybody [Ray, Bryson, and Hines] started going, it made me want to go a lot more." The ultimate deciding factor was the attention he got from the A&M staff. "It was a school that I've liked for a while. They contacted me a lot."

So with the recruiting process over with, McCoy can focus on continuing to play his senior season. Midland Lee got out to a rough start dropping three straight games to defending State Champion Southlake Carroll, 2004 state semifinalist Euless Trinity, and Dallas Kimball, all on the road, before finally earning their first win on Saturday with a convincing 32-7 win over Port Arthur Memorial.

So far on the season, McCoy has 17 catches for 205 yards and 4 TDs. He also has one TD on the ground. The interesting thing is that McCoy has played on a sprained ankle all season long. McCoy filled us in. "I haven't been able to make cuts as fast as I can. I have had to run my routes slower."

McCoy's coach, Randy Quisenberry had this to say. "He's a very athletic kid. He's 6'4", almost 200 pounds. That's his biggest deal right now, his raw athleticism."

Midland Lee and McCoy wrap up pre-season play this weekend (Friday, September 23) against nationally ranked Clovis (CA) East.
