For the third time in his four year high school career, Antonio Conner will be playing for a state title. After a dominating defensive showing against Madison Central on Friday night, Conner was all smiles and eager to get back to Jackson and compete for the 6A crown.

"It's just lovely," said Conner of his team's title game berth. "We had some trouble earlier this season, but we stayed together as a team and came back and got it."

Friday night, South Panola looked like the Tigers of old who won 89 straight games.

Those Tiger classes were led by a smothering defense.

In the 6A north state title game, South Panola held Madison Central to just 74 offensive yards including a negative one yards rushing.

"We watched their film everyday," said Conner of his team's preparations. "We studied real hard and we practiced hard all week.

"We came out and played hard and got the win. I feel like we are playing some good ball right now."

Conner was once a wide eyed freshman trying to make plays in a state title game nearly four years ago.

The five star safety reports that he plans to share some of that experience with the underclasmen on the squad who have never played in the Big House.

"I am telling all of those young guys to keep working hard and keep sticking together as a team," said Conner. "If we just stay together, everything should be alright."

Conner is considered the top football prospect in the state of Mississippi.

The talented defensive back has played his cards pretty close to his vest throughout the process, but it appears his college future will be in the SEC.

"I am going to set all of my visits up after the season," explained Conner. "I am going to visit Alabama, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, LSU and Georgia.

"I don't have a leader. I am still open. I am just worried about winning this next game right now." Recommended Stories
