Aggies crush Sam Houston St 47-28

No. 8 Texas A&M opened a 47-0 lead on Sam Houston State early in the third quarter, before substituting liberally and coasting to a 47-28 win to improve its season record to 9-2. In the blowout, Heisman candidate Johnny Manziel played just one play in the second half, and still passed for 267 yards and 3 TDs and rushed for 100 yards and 2 TDs to lead the Aggies.

After a slow start, taking a 7-0 first quarter lead, No. 8 Texas A&M scored 27 second quarter points to take a 34-0 lead at halftime, extended that in the third quarter to 47-0, then coasted to a 47-28 win over Sam Houston State.

Leading Heisman candidate Johnny Manziel passed for 267 yards and 3 TDs and rushed for 100 yards and 2 TDs to lead the Aggies, despite playing just one play in thye second half.

Texas A&M received the opening kickoff and Johnny Manziel once again led an opening possession touchdown drive, marching 72 yards in 12 plays, with Manziel connecting with Mike Evans on a 7-yard touchdown pass. Taylor Bertolet's extra point gave the Aggies a 7-0 lead at the 10:17 mark in the first quarter. The rest of the first quarter were echanges of punts between Sam Houston and Texas A&M.

Early in the second quarter, Texas A&M drove 95 yards in 8 plays, 44 yards of it on Johnny Manziel scrambles, and Manziel threw his second touchdown pass of the game to Mike Evans, this from 10 yards. Bertolet's extra point gave the Aggies a 14-0 lead with seven minutes left in teh first half.

After forcing another Sam Houston 3-and-out, Texas A&M drove into Sam Houston territory before a Johnny Manziel pass intended for Mike Evans was intercepted by Sam Houston cornerback Dax Swanson at the Sam Houstong 21-yard line.

Two plays later Sam Houston returned the favor when a Brian Bell pass was intercepted by Aggie linebacker Donnie Baggs, Baggs returned it 8 yards but fumbled, and Aggie cornerback Dustin Harris picked up the fumble and returned it to the Sam Houston 13-yard line.

It took the Aggies just three plays to take advantage of the Sam Houston turnover, with Johnny Manziel scoring on a 4-yard run. The extra point snap was muffed, leaving the Aggies with a 20-0 lead with 4:11 left in the first half.

After another Sam Houston 3-and-out, Johnny Manziel threw a 40-yard pass to Uzoma Nwachukwu and a 20-yard pass to Mike Evans before Trey Williams scored a touchdown on a 6-yard run. Bertolet's extra point gave Texas A&M a 27-0 lead with 1:40 to go in the half.

On the ensuing Sam Houston possession, Richard Sincere had the ball taken away from him by Aggie linebacker Sean Porter at the Sam Houston 20-yard line. Johnny Manziel threw a 19-yard completion to Uzoma Nwachukwu before Manziel scored on a 1-yard run. Bertolet's extra point gave the Aggies a 34-0 halftime lead.

At the half, Texas A&M led Sam Houston in total yards, 312 to 58, and in first downs, 19 to 4.

Johnny Manziel had completed 13 of 19 passes for 178 yards and 2 TDs and rushed for 100 yards and 2 TDs on 16 carries. Mike Evans had caught 6 passes for 81 yards and 2 TDs while Uzoma Nwachukwu jad 3 catches for 71 yards.

Sam Houston started the second half picking up one forst down before being forced to punt. On A&M's first play from crimmage, Johnny Manziel threw an 89-yard touchdown pass to Uzoma Nwachukwu. Johnny Manziel attempted the extra point but missed, leaving the Aggies with a 40-0 lead with 13:34 left in the third quarter. This would be the end of Johnny Manziel's day.

After another Sam Houston punt, Jameill Showers came on for Texas A&M at quarterback and on his first play from scrimmage, Showers thre an 80-yard touchdown pass to LeKendrick Williams. Bertolet's extra point extended the Aggie lead to 47-0 with 10:41 still to go in the third quarter.

From that point Texas A&M began to substitute liberally on defense and A&M's lack of defensive depth was apparent as Sam Houston scored 28 second half points against the Aggie backups.

Sam Houston went on an 18-play, 75-yard drive consuming over nine minutes of clock, and Tim Flanders scored a touchdown on a 2-yard run. Miguel Antonio's extra point made the score Texas A&M 47-7 with a little over a minute left in the third quarter.

Sam Houston attempted an on-side kick and recovered at the Aggie 49-yard line. It took Sam Houston just 4 plays to score, with Brian Bell throwing a 9-yard touchdown pass complete to K.J. Williams. Antonio's extra point cut the Aggie lead to 47-14 early in the fourth quarter.

After a series of punts, Sam Houston drove 55 yards in 8 plays with Ridgeway Frank scoring on a 1-yard run to cut the Aggie lead to 47-21.

On the next Aggie possesion Trey Williams fumbled and Sam Houston recovered at their 44-yard line. It took Sam Houston just 4 plays to take advantage of the Aggie turnover and score, with backup quarterback Chris Grett scoring on a 5-yard run to make it Texas A&M 47, Sam Houston 28, which would be the final score.

In pretty deceptive final games stats, Texas A&M and Sam Houston each had 22 forst downs, while Texas A&M led in total yards, 527 to 382.

For the game, Johnny Manziel who played just one play in the third quarter completed 14 of 20 passes for 267 yards and 3 TDs with 1 INT and rushed for 100 yards and 2 TDs on 16 carries. Uzoma Nwachukwu caught 4 passes for 160 yards and 1 TD. LeKendrick Williams caught 2 passes for 86 yards and 1 TD. Mike Evans caught 6 passes for 81 yards and 2 TD.

For Sam Houston, Brian Bell completed 14 of 30 passes for 150 yards and 1 TD with 1 INT. Rret Diller caught 6 passes for 74 yards and Tim Flanders rushed for 64 yards and 1 TD on 21 carries.

While the second half was a bit sloppy for the Aggies with the mass substitution and the final score and stats certainly did not reflect the true Aggie domination in this contest, Texas A&M wins its ninth game of the year, improving its season record to 9-2, while getting to plays lots of players the second half and giving the starters a needed rest.

Next Saturday night Texas A&M will be trying to win it tenth game of the season when it completes its regular sean hosting SEC rival Missouri.
