The Clemson coaching staff has inquired about this junior college cornerback who played high school…
Aggies Reach Out to New JUCO Target
"The coach told me to send my transcripts tomorrow and they want to do a background check," Jones said. "He said if everything checks out, they want to bring me in and offer me."
The 6-foot, 186-pound cornerback said the A&M assistant told him the coaching staff watched his 2012 film and loved his man cover skills and the fact that he plays fearlessly and with a lot of aggressiveness, attitude, and swagger.
They also said they need somebody to replace Dustin Harris and they want a mature JUCO and not an undersized freshman coming out of high school. They want him to step in and compete for that starting spot.
So what was his initial reaction to being offered by A&M?
"Wow, I had never heard from A&M until tonight so I was pleasant surprised," Jones said. "I'm definitely interested. My dream is to play in the SEC and they are doing good in their first year."
Despite not being recruited by the Aggies until tonight, he still is familiar with the 2012 Aggies who are playing on national TV in the SEC.
"I got to watch them play Florida, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State," Jones said. "That quarterback is good and they have a great offense. I didn't watch the defense closely, but they seem to be pretty good and they need an experienced corner to come in next season. I'm definitely interested in Texas A&M and I will take a visit there."
For now, Jones has four other schools on his list including Ole Miss and Kansas State who have offered, and both Alabama and Georgia who have not offered to this point. Texas A&M now makes five.
"I'm probably going to A&M on November 17, but we still have to work out the details," Jones said. "I'm also going to take my visits to Ole Miss and Kansas State and maybe some others."
So does he have a leader at this point?
"No, I'm wide open. I want to take my visits and then make a decision," Jones said. "Signing day is December 16 so I'd like to have a decision around December 7."
His major factors in making a decision include immediate playing time, comfort level with the coaching staff, facilities, and campus environment.
Asked if he would be considering A&M at this late date if they were still in the Big 12, he said, "Probably not. My dream has been to play in the SEC. I want to play in the best conference in the country. A&M is definitely one of my top schools now."
