For a half, Kansas looked like they had taken their best shots from Baylor and seemed poised to hang around and fight for a rare conference and even rarer road win. Then, after lightning delayed the second half by 45 minutes, it seemed as if the Jayhawks never answered the bell, as they fell again 41-14.

The loss drops Kansas to 1-8 and 0-6 in the Big 12 with three games remaining. Baylor snaps a four-game losing streak to improve to 4-4 and 1-4 in league play.

The loss is especially disheartening, in that after falling behind 14-0 within minutes, KU closed the gap, going to the locker room down 20-14 at the half.

The Bears scored 21 unanswered points, as the Jayhawks offense was rendered ineffective. Dayne Crist replaced starting quarterback Michael Cummings in the fourth quarter and led a couple of drives deep into Baylor territory, but came away with no points. Cummings went nine of 19 for 81 yards with two interceptions, which both came in the third quarter. He did score on a 22-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Crist was two of seven for 15 yards.

Despite the loss, Kansas was led in rushing by running back James Sims, who finished 126 yards on 21 carries, including a 59-yard touchdown in the first quarter.

The Baylor offense tallied almost 700 yards of total offense. Quarterback Nick Florence was 26 of 42 for 367 yards and three touchdowns. They were led in receiving by Terrance Williams, who hauled in 11 catches for 137 yards and a touchdown. On the ground, Baylor had two 100 yard rushers, led by Glasco Martin’s 157 yards on 11 carries.

Kansas will try to stop their eight game losing skid, next Saturday at Texas Tech.
