West Virginia played well enough on defense to win Saturday's game against TCU, according to coach Dana Holgorsen. It was the offense and the kicking game that cost the Mountaineers in their double overtime loss.

Joe DeForest was in the press box to coach Saturday's game, but he was still calling defensive plays, according to Holgorsen, DeForest and co-defensive coordinator Keith Patterson. DeForest discussed what went right on defense Saturday.

It was tough to see all the positive things West Virginia did defensively after what was an emotional loss, according to linebacker Isaiah Bruce. But there were positive things the Mountaineer defenders could take away from their performance, he said..

Tavon Austin called the loss the toughest of his career, and now that his dreams of competing for a Big 12 championship in his senior season are essentially shot, he said it will become clear which players love the game and want to compete.
