Hill Discusses His A&M Commit
So it came as no surprise that the son of former Texas Rangers pitcher Kent Hill was a big recruiting target for many D-1 programs with over 15 offers from the likes of Utah, Baylor, Texas Tech, TCU, Missouri, North Carolina, and Ole' Miss to name a few. But on Saturday while at Texas A&M's spring game, Hill decided he wanted to be an Aggie.
"Yes sir, I committed to Texas A&M," Hill said. "Texas A&M was always a school I felt comfortable with the family atmosphere. I went to a game last year and it was incredible. Obviously, I like the new offense and we run something very similar at my school."
While Hill says his commitment marks the end of his recruitment, he is a prospect that could be drafted in the MLB Draft in June 2013. The third baseman is hitting close to .400 and several scouts have inquired about his future plans.
"Playing professional baseball is a possibility, but it's too early to know what will happen," Hill said. "If I do get drafted, I may sign if I can work something out where I play baseball in the summer and football during the school year. I want to play college football."
The Southlake Carroll product is excited about continuing his career at the collegiate level in Aggieland. Through the course of the recruiting process he has become close with several players and signees, most notably his former No. 1 wide receiver target Sabian Holmes who signed with Texas A&M last February.
"Some of the guys like Matt Davis were happy for me and we talk a lot," Hill said. "When I told Sab (Sabian Holmes) I committed he was excited. We have a good chemistry on the field and I can't wait to play with him again."
Because the dual sport athlete plans to play his senior season in baseball, he will not be a mid-term enrollee like current signal callers Jameill Showers, Matt Joeckel, and Matt Davis. He will enroll in June 2013.
