It didn't take long for Texas A&M head coach to find his man to replace defensive line coach Terrell Williams who left to coach in the NFL. It doesn't hurt that the new coach also happens to be an Aggie all-American defensive lineman in the 1990's.
Multiple sources have indicated that Kevin Sumlin plans to hire former
Texas A&M
all-American defensive lineman and current
Texas Tech
DL coach Terry Price to replace recently departed DL coach Terrell Williams who left to coach the
Oakland Raiders
last week. The Georgia native was hired in December by Red Raider head coach Tommy Tuberville after coaching three seasons for
Houston Nutt
at
Ole Miss
.
After early coaching jobs at his alma mater and
Western Kentucky
, Price first worked under defensive coordinator Tuberville at Ole Miss starting in 1995 as he served his first stint with the Rebels as defensive line coach until1998. He followed Tuberville to
Auburn
where he served the same role with the Tigers from 1999-2008.
Under his watch at Auburn, the Tiger defensive line topped the SEC in sacks in 2005 - which included an 11-sack game against arch-rival
Alabama
. The Auburn defense ranked sixth nationally in scoring defense in 2005, seventh in 2006 and sixth in 2007. His defensive ends played a major role in a Tiger defense that led the nation in scoring defense and was fifth in total defense in 2004. Five of Price's defensive ends were NFL draft picks between 1999 and 2007.
In his return to Ole Miss in 2009, Price led an attacking Rebel defensive line that helped Ole Miss rack up 96 TFLs and 36 sacks, ranking in the top two in the SEC and 11th and 14th in the nation, respectively. Price's line continued to attack the backfield in 2010, as Ole Miss finished No. 20 in the nation in both TFLs (82) and sacks (31).
At Texas A&M, Price was an honorable mention All-American defensive end for the Aggies and helped lead A&M to Southwest Conference championships in 1986 and 1987. He was a 10th-round draft pick of the
Chicago Bears
and played two seasons in NFL.
Price is a native of Atlanta, Ga., and is married to the former Kenya Hodges. The couple has two sons, Alexander and Devin.
