Scout.com takes a look at highlights of Hempstead receiver Trent Momon, who is a big receiver who…
Momon Makes the Call
Twenty years later, five-star wide receiver Terrence Toliver also bypassed playing for the Aggies just 30 miles up highway 6. He also signed with the Tigers, and he put an exclamation point on his career with two long touchdowns to beat Texas A&M in the 2011 Cotton Bowl.
The Hempstead streak has been broken today, when class of 2012 wide receiver Trent Momon committed to the Aggies two days after attending Sunday's junior day and one day after being formally offered a scholarship.
"Yes, I committed to Texas A&M this afternoon," Momon said. "I grew up an A&M fan and I really liked their academics and academic support programs. I also like the offense and the ability I'll have to follow Jeff Fuller."
Hempstead's head coach Rick Sargent had high praise for his blue chip junior receiver. At 6-foot-5, 195 pounds, Momon is physically similar to LSU's Toliver, but Sargent feels his current receiver could be further along at this stage in his career.
"Trent is an outstanding athlete. He is a playmaker at receiver, but he's also our free safety on defense and he's important to our special teams," Sargent said. "He has great hands and he's effective on deep routes and also going over the middle. "
Despite his big frame and 4.5 forty speed, Momon feels his best assets are his hands.
"My strength is my catching ability," Momon said. "I can go up and fight for the ball over anybody. I'll find a way to make the catch."
Momon had an offer from University of Houston as well as his recent offer from the Aggies. He was getting serious interest from Oklahoma, LSU, and Texas Tech to name a few. He indicated that he's finished with the recruiting process and will not take additional visits.
